Thanks

I just want to say thank you to everyone who helped make my birthday the best ever by coming to my birthday party. I know it was a trek for a lot of you. The only bad thing is now I have way too much cheesecake left at my house, so if the mood strikes for some, you know where to find it.

New Ward, New Habits, New Beginnings?

Yesterday we to all three blocks (a big feat for me!) of our new ward. It is really hard for me to sit through all 3 blocks, but since we are homeowners now I really wanted to change that so I prepped myself all week about how excited I was to sit through three hours of church. And it worked! I don't know if it was my attitude or the fact that we are rooted homeowners now and not just another newly married couple "squatting" in a ward, but our reception at this ward was much different than any other ward we've been to. Already we have been introduced to more people than in the entire 6 months we were in our old ward. We even got treats brought to us by Mormon neighbors across the street. Relief society was great, too. I haven't been able to go for so long since we've been in primary. I am looking forward to becoming more of a permanent fixture in this ward!

A Home of Our Own

Let me just start by saying that I highly recommend buying a house. They are great for putting your stuff in, protection from the natural elements, and hiding from wild beasts. I love having a house!

We are finally all moved in and with the exception of my sewing room, we are all unpacked. It feels so good just to plop down on my couch and just breath a sigh of relief that there is not a used car lot litterally outside of our door, or there aren't a billion cats living in our garbage can, or there isn't a guy honking a bicycle horn and pushing a shopping cart down the street selling cotton candy.

Laveen is great! We have a Walmart, a Fry's and a Target! Our neighborhood isn't bad either, it is filled with bike paths and parks. We went to our new ward on Sunday and it was very nice, or at least the nap I took at church was very nice! We hope all of you can come visit soon!

I want to give a shout out to Sweet Lo for all the cleaning she did in the apartment and in the new house. I don't think that apartment has ever shined so much! Whoever moves in after us is really lucky.

Pictures will come very soon!

For those of you who thought we were adding a little Nater Tot to the family, sorry to have duped you, but come on, do you really think I would announce that on a blog?

What is Laveen?

A beautiful agricultural community! Laveen is known for its dairies and farms. The town slogan "Laveen: Come smell our dairy air!".

Quaint Small Town! Think Queen Creek with freeways and ten minutes from downtoan Phoenix .

A haven for sportslovers! There are plans to build a Spring Training sports center in 2012.

Sports Tragedy! Miami Dolphins linebacker Larry Gordon died while jogging in Laveen. Philidelphia Eagles linebacker Byron Evons' house burnt down in Laveen. In 2006, Emmit Smith built a massive shopping center in Laveen, it is now completely abondoned! Sports stars- stay out of Laveen!

A burgeoning metropolis! Aside form Emmitt Smith's failed attempts, Laveen really is growing. ADOT is expanding the 202 and 101 freeways into Laveen, there are plans for a hospital and shopping centers (I hope a Target!).

Our New Home Town! Thats right, we're moving this Labor Day weekend. I hope that this bevy of information has swayed you to make the trip to come visit us in beautiful Laveen!

Another Mini Break

Last night we went to Tucson to see one our favorite bands, Wilco, play. Wow it was awesome! We sat way up in the balcony but its was still a great show. Here are some videos of some of their songs from a documentary about them:

Mini Breaks

A couple of weeks ago Nathan and I went to Prescott for a little mini break. I wasn't expecting much, just a little time away from the heat and our apartment,  but it was a great time! we stayed in Nathan's dad's rental cottage in the Downtown area. All of the homes in that neighborhood are little Victorians like this
So cute, right? There was a classic care show just a couple of blocks away. The weather was so beautiful, maybe 60 degrees.

Sorry I don't how to get rid of the underlining text! Alright I know the above picture is small, but look closely to see if you can see the Dodge Caravan in the back left of the picture. That car was in the classic car show!

For a laugh, put space boots on your dog!

new NEW clothes!

Ok I'm finished with some 0f my projects and here they are!
Here's the first: I bought this one from forver21 for a couple dollars on the clearance rack.

Before: After:

I know its nothing too difficult, but hey its a new outfit for a couple of bucks!

This was one of my favorite dresses, but it was just too short.

Before: After:

I cut off the top and added a little bit of tulle to make it little poofy.

This one I think is my favorite. I got it at the Arizona Breast Cancer Thrift Store. (The old DAV)
It looks repulsive on me at first but I loved the fabric. I tried to do my most pitiful before picture

Before:    After:

All I really did here was take the dress in on the sides.

If anyone has any good ideas about any other projects let me know!

New Clothes

Hello dear and beloveds. For those of you who know me, I LOVE dresses! Before I had the privelige beingof becoming Mrs. Nathan Parrish, I had tons of them, many of them pretty dang short, too (how do you think I snagged my man?!). Well as you can imagine my dress wardrobe has slimmed down quite a bit in an effort to be more modest. This makes me sad! I don't want to be one of those girls who looks super gay because they are trying ever so hard to get away with inmodest clothes while adhereing to a self imposed dress code, but I also don't want to look like a sister missionary. Ya know what I mean? (No offense to either of these groups)

Well, being the daughter of my mother (a master at taking junk and turning it into treasures) I have determined to take all of my inmodest and outdated dresses I've been holding onto for the past year and make modest and modern modifications to them. I've had a lot of success in the past with this and wanted to chronicle my sewing journey. I've got a few projects underway and can't wait to share my progress, that is if I can get my sewing machine to work. Posts with pictures are soon to come!

Hello friends and happy Easter

Hi I hope you all had a great Easter. Mine was the bomb.com. The Easter bunny came for a visit gave us some bomb gifts this year. For the past year, Nathan has been talking/hinting at getting
a Mini Mac and using our tv as a giant monitor for it.

So I went to the Apple store and told them I was getting my husband a new computer for Easter and the guys working there asked what I did for him for Christmas. I only get these big presents when when he begs for them for a year! Nate's face lit up like a Christmas tree when he got his Easter basket and his present for me was just as good.
Nathan gave me the coolest present, tickets to the M. Ward concert in Tucson! If you don't know who M. Ward is, he is an awesome rock and roller, and one half of the band She & Him with Zooey Deschanel (The girl from Elf), but this concert was just of him.  It was a great concert all of the songs were perfect. It was well worth the two hour drive and battling all of the drunks that were there for the Campus Club Crawl. I highly suggest you check out some M. Ward!

Also, I wanted to share with you one of our current obsessions.

Speaking of Mac Awesomeness....

Ok I don't know how to embed YouTube videos, but if you have the time and curiosity and love for Macs, then you'll want to check out this sweet video!

My Computer is a Light Saber.

I just downloaded this awesome application for my computer that makes light saber sounds whenever my computer moves! I'm having a little trouble blogging about this Mac awesomeness because Nathan keeps trying to fight Ewoks with my laptop. The download is free from this website. I will try not to let my MacBook fall to the Dark Side.

Vacation

I know what you're thinking, sheesh this lady loves blogging, but I need your ideas!!! Come summertime, we are completely burnt out and need a vacation!!! So i am soliciting your ideas for an awesome cost effective vacation for me and Nathan.

Hello Friends

So after weeks of looking 24/7 I have a new job. I don't know why I was stressing, but that comes with having OCD. I applied for probably hundreds of jobs and have come up with a couple options that will be great for our little family. I want to say thanks to all my homies for the good words of encouragement and help and want to especially thank Nathan for giving me the option as working as his Love Slave if I didn't find a job.

Interviewing was a lot of fun and I am going to enjoy working with other grown humans who can respond with words when I talk to them, getting dressed up in fancy clothes and having a normal schedule. I am going to miss paid nap time, going to work in sweats, doing my homework at work and taking Nathan to work with me, but its all for the best.

Darcy. Out!

how has a crappy economy effected you?

If you are like me two months ago, you probably thought the economy wasn't that bad. Ignorance is bliss! I have had to learn about our country's troubled times the good old fashioned way, by getting laid off! Not by one, but by two jobs! Storables is closing and my nanny job will continue only until I find a new job. I am just throwing this out there so if anyone knows of any place that is hiring I'd love to know.
